Pittsburgh Laser Hair Removal Tips
If you’re dreaming about wearing tank tops and bikinis in the warm summer weather, then now is the time to start preparing to look your best with laser hair removal. When summer weather is upon us in a few months, you’d probably like your underarms and bikini line to be flawless and smooth without worrying about shaving all the time. Laser hair removal is a great option for permanent hair removal on virtually any part of the body, but the best time for this treatment is during the doldrums of winter. Here are a few reasons why:
- 1. Less Sun Exposure: The lasers used in hair removal are designed to target the melanin, or pigment, of the hair in the follicle and disrupt growth, so the lighter your skin is, the easier it is for the laser to identify the hair in the follicle. If your skin is darker than usual due to sun exposure or sunless tanning, then the laser will not be as effective and could potentially increase your burn risk. Sun exposure in winter is less likely, so it becomes a practical time to begin treatments. Additionally, you must avoid sun exposure to the treated areas for 2-4 weeks prior to and following a laser hair removal session. Obviously, avoiding the sun is easier to do in winter as well.
- Easier to Cover Up in Winter: As mentioned above, once you schedule and receive a laser hair removal treatment, you’ll have to avoid exposing those areas to the sun for at least 2 or more weeks prior to and after your treatment for optimum effectiveness and safety. If you schedule treatments in the winter, you’ll likely be dressed in long sleeves and pants that will cover the treated areas anyway, and you won’t have to miss out on wearing those fun, summer clothes and bathing suits for several weeks during the summer months.
- Ideal Results Take Time: Because the lasers used in laser hair removal target hair in the first stage of growth in the follicle, several sessions are necessary to eliminate all the hair in the treatment area. Plan for at least 4-6 sessions over the course of 6 months before the entire area is essentially hair free. For this reason alone, you should begin the process long before you expect to wear clothing that will expose the areas of your body where the hair has been removed.
