If you are finally ready for a wrinkle treatment such as Botox® Cosmetic or Juvéderm® in the Pittsburgh area, Cosmetic Laser Centers SM is the premier clinic for these and many other non-surgical treatments. We offer several injectable options to our patients, including Botox® and Juvéderm®, but we realize that sometimes it’s difficult to differentiate between them. It is important to know that some injectables function differently than others. Patients often unknowingly confuse neuromodulators like Botox® Cosmetic with fillers such as Juvéderm®. We would like to outline the major differences of these two popular and highly effective options:
Juvéderm® Function and Uses: Juvéderm® is one example of a dermal filler, which means that it is directly injected into moderate to deep folds and wrinkles in order to temporarily “fill” those wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm plumps the injected area, instantly giving the skin a fuller, more youthful look. Juvéderm® is primarily used for lines and wrinkles on the face, namely nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the sides of the nose down to the mouth) and in the lips. It is commonly used on other areas of the face and body too. Juvéderm® is composed of hyaluronic acid, a protein that the body naturally produces, and is injected into the skin using a small needle or microcannula. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes and may result in some temporary bruising, redness and swelling around the injection site. Results of Juvéderm® are instant and will last for 6-24 months depending on which product is injected, how much is injected and where the product is placed.
Botox® Cosmetic’s Function and Uses: Botox® is a neuromodulator. This means that when it is injected into a facial muscle it temporarily paralyzes the muscle, causing the muscles to relax. When treated muscles are relaxed after treatment, they do not work as hard. As a result, the wrinkles soften considerably. Botox® typically works best to soften lines and wrinkles around the eyes such as crow’s feet and frown lines between the brows. Botox® is injected using a very small needle. Treatment is usually completed within 15-30 minutes, with little to no downtime afterward. The results of Botox® typically last for 3-4 months.
As you can see, Botox® Cosmetic and Juvéderm® work in different ways to soften and eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If you have wrinkles you wish to soften, the professionals at Cosmetic Laser Centers SM are prepared to assess your individual needs and make a recommendation about the best injectables for you.
