Laser Hair Removal
Everyone knows how inconvenient it is to shave and also how embarrassing it can be if you forget. This is why laser hair removal is such a great solution.
Laser Hair Removal – Benefits
Laser hair removal has many benefits for both men and women. Since laser hair removal offers permanent hair reduction, you will save time by not having to shave, tweeze, or wax. In addition, for some, hair growth on certain areas of the body can be embarrassing. Oftentimes women develop facial hair as they age or after they become pregnant. Shaving can create a shadowed effect and the presence of stubble. Laser hair removal can help to remove the hair and allow the freedom of worry from embarrassing hair growth.
Additional benefits include:
- Freedom from razor burn and bumps
- Increased confidence
- Smoother, softer skin (free from stubble)
Laser Hair Removal – Process
Laser hair removal can be done on people with many different hair and several skin types. During the treatment process the laser will emit pulses on the areas to be treated. These pulses kill the hair follicle which is why the hair doesn’t grow back. While the treatment can have some discomfort, it is short lived and normal activities can be resumed right after. Treatments usually last approximately 30-60 minutes, but may be more or less depending on the size of the area(s) being treated. The first 6 to 8 treatments are typically done 5-6 weeks apart. Many patients see an 80-85% reduction in hair after the first 6 to 8 treatments.
Laser Hair Removal – Preparation
Before receiving your treatments you will want to stop shaving for a few days in order for the hair to grow very short and be easy to see. If the area is shaved too close to treatment, then it may be difficult for the provider to see and therefore treat. In addition, it is recommended that the area is exfoliated prior to treatment. Wearing breathable clothing to your appointment is suggested to decrease the possibility of irritation on your skin.
Laser Hair Removal – Aftercare
After your treatment it is recommended to avoid public gyms, pools and hot tubs for at least 24 hours in order to avoid being exposed to any bacteria. Hot showers are also not recommended. Your skin may have a slight burning sensation after treatment and have small raised bumps where the laser treated. This is normal and will subside after a few hours. Showering in cooler water is encouraged, as well as gently exfoliating and moisturizing. It is best to wait 2-3 days before you exfoliate the treated area. You should not tweeze the area being treated. This will slow the process since the hair is being pulled out from the root. The tweezed hair will still grow back since the follicle wasn’t destroyed and the laser will not be able to effectively treat the area.
