Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, age spots, freckles, and other complexion concerns. The chemicals used in our peels exfoliate the skin to reveal “newer” skin underneath, giving the face a fresh, more youthful appearance. Overall chemical peels can enhance skin’s texture, tone, and color.
Cosmetic Laser Centers℠ currently offers 3 types of chemical peels: a superficial peel, a medium-grade peel, and a deep peel. As you advance through each stage of peels, they will penetrate deeper into the skin, gradually revealing more drastic results. Depending on your skin’s condition and the desired effect, one type of peel may be more beneficial.
For those patients new to chemical peels, it is recommended that they begin with a superficial peel. This will allow the patient to see how their skin reacts to the peel while also lessening recovery time. The deeper the peel, the longer the recovery time will be. Our trusted experts will be able to identify which treatment plan is best for you.
Reaction and Downtime
It isn’t uncommon for chemical peels to result in minor discomfort such as a burning or stinging sensation similar to that of a sunburn. Patients are advised to avoid the sun for several months after a treatment to allow the skin to properly heal, and to take extra precautions when they cannot avoid it. After a few days, the skin may darken some and then begin to gently peel off – this is all completely normal. You may peel for up to 10 days, and the level of peel you receive will determine how severe the peeling and darkening will be.
To minimize the appearance of peeling skin on your face, you are able to gently exfoliate with a washcloth twice a day, but oftentimes some peeling will remain present on the skin. With this in mind, you’ll want to avoid scheduling a chemical peel before big events and sunny vacations. Our esthetician can discuss other tips with you at the time of your appointment so you can help heal your newly treated skin with confidence and maximize the results.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic service that gently yet effectively exfoliates the surface of the skin. During the treatment, our licensed esthetician “sprays” ultra fine microcrystals onto the skin, removing dead skin cells that can make the skin look dull, revealing a more vibrant appearance immediately. These microcrystals are made of aluminum dioxide, a natural, sand-like substance. The procedure also promotes growth of new, younger skin by stimulating some collagen growth and working with the body’s natural healing process.
Microdermabrasion is primarily used for the following conditions:
- Removing black heads and white heads
- Decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Decreasing the appearance of acne scars
- Revealing healthier skin for a more youthful appearance
Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive procedure that can be repeated as many times as necessary, but most patients see treatment results immediately. There is little to no downtime after the procedure but patients are advised to limit sun exposure during the healing process, and take additional safety precautions when necessary. The skin may feel slightly tight or similar to that of a sunburn afterward, but typically goes back to normal within a few days.
Microdermabrasion is not recommended for those with certain types of hyperpigmentation or moderate-severe rosacea as it can exacerbate these issues. Our esthetician can discuss these issues with you and alternative treatments.
